Geography
Jaman South lies in the west of the Bono Region, with the international boundary with Côte d’Ivoire on its western side. Drobo and Japekrom sit next to each other and function as one built-up area, the largest in the municipality. The terrain is a transition belt: semi-deciduous forest in the south giving way to savanna woodland further north. Rain falls in two peaks, around May and again in September and October, which allows two cropping cycles on many farms.
Within the region it adjoins Jaman North to the north and Berekum to the east, with Dormaa to the south.
Economy and Local Life
Most households farm. Cashew, cocoa and oil palm are the cash crops, with maize, yam, cassava and plantain grown for food and for sale. The Drobo–Japekrom market is the main trading floor for the area and pulls buyers from across the border. Petty trading, transport and small-scale food processing employ much of the non-farm workforce.
Cocoa is bought by licensed companies operating depots in the larger villages, while cashew moves through independent buyers in the early part of the year. Outlying communities such as Baano Number One and Kwame Nkama depend on feeder roads to move produce to the Drobo market.
Getting There
Drobo is about two and a half hours from Sunyani by road, travelling through Berekum. The same road continues north to Sampa and the Ivorian frontier. Minibuses and shared taxis link Drobo with Berekum, Sunyani and Dormaa Ahenkro throughout the day.
