Geography
Techiman North lies in the west of the Bono East Region, in the transition belt between forest and savanna. The land is gently rolling farmland with patches of secondary forest and low sandstone ridges, and streams here feed the Tano and Volta systems. The district has two rainy seasons, roughly April to July and September to October, which allows two planting cycles in most years.
It borders Techiman Municipality, from which it was created, and lies west of Nkoranza North and south of Kintampo South.
Economy and Local Life
Farming is the main livelihood, and the district is one of the food baskets that supplies the Techiman market. Households grow maize, yam, cassava, plantain, groundnuts, cowpea, tomatoes, pepper and other vegetables; cashew has spread widely as a cash crop. Poultry keeping and small ruminants are common, and many families combine farming with market trading.
Tuobodom is the administrative centre and holds the district assembly and the main local market. Because the regional capital sits on the district’s doorstep, a large share of produce, labour and daily commerce flows into Techiman rather than staying local, and many residents travel there for banking, secondary schooling and hospital care.
Getting There
Tuobodom sits on the N10 Techiman–Kintampo–Tamale road, a few kilometres north of Techiman, so it is one of the easiest district capitals in the region to reach. Shared taxis run between Techiman and Tuobodom throughout the day, and buses on the Kumasi–Tamale route pass through. Feeder roads serving the farm hamlets are laterite and slow in the wet season.
