Geography
The municipality runs along the coast from the Kogelberg mountains east through Walker Bay to Danger Point at Gansbaai, with the Hemel-en-Aarde and Stanford valleys inland. It borders City of Cape Town to the west across the Kogelberg, Theewaterskloof to the north and Cape Agulhas to the east.
The Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, straddling the municipality’s western boundary, protects some of the richest fynbos diversity in the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Population rose from 80,358 in the 2011 census to 132,495 in 2022, a 65% increase — the fastest growth in the Overberg District, driven by coastal holiday-home development and semigration from Cape Town and Gauteng.
