Tensas Parish, or Paroisse des Tensas in French, is a parish in the northeastern part of the state of Louisiana.

The Mississippi River runs along its eastern border.

As of the census in 2020, there were 4,147 people living there.

It is the parish with the fewest people in all of Louisiana. St. Joseph is the center of the parish.

The name Tensas comes from an ancient group of people called the Taensa.

The church was started in 1843, after the Indians had been moved.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that the parish covers 641 square miles (1,660 km2), of which 603 square miles (1,560 km2) are land and 38 square miles (98 km2) are water, or 6.0%.
