Smith County is a county in the U.S. state of Kansas.

It is usually written as SM. Smith Center is the county seat.

As of the census in 2020, there were 3,570 people living there.

J. Nelson Smith, a major in the 2nd Colorado Cavalry, died at the Battle of Westport on October 21, 1864.

The county is named after him. The physical center of the 48 contiguous states is near Lebanon, which is in this county.
