Orange County, abbreviated O.C., is a county in Southern California that is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The population was 3,186,989 as of the 2020 census, making it the third-most populous county in California, the sixth-most populous in the United States, and more populous than 19 American states and Washington, D.C.
Despite being mostly suburban, it is the state’s second most densely populated county, trailing only San Francisco County.
The three most populous cities in the county are Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Irvine, each of which has a population of more than 300,000 people.
Santa Ana also serves as the county seat.
