Howard is the county seat. The county was made in 1873, and in 1880 it was put together.
Miner County is mostly made up of rolling hills and lakes and ponds.
Most of the land is used for farming.
The land generally slopes to the south and southwest, and the highest point, at 1,729 ft (527 m) ASL, is along the north boundary line in the northeast part of the county.
The county has a total area of 572 square miles (1,480 km2), of which 570 square miles (1,500 km2) are land and 1.6 square miles (4.1 km2) (0.3%) are water.
