Kent County is a county in Rhode Island, United States.
The population was 170,363[1] as of the 2020 census, making it Rhode Island’s second-most populous county.
In 1750, the county was formed from the southern third of Providence County.
It was named after the English county of Kent.
Kent County, like the rest of Rhode Island’s counties, no longer has governmental functions (except for court administrative and sheriff corrections boundaries).
East Greenwich is its seat. Kent County is part of the Providence-Warwick, RI-MA Combined Statistical Area, which is part of the larger Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 188 square miles (490 km2), of which 169 square miles (440 km2) is land and 20 square miles (52 km2) (10%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
