The population was 203,136 as of the 2020 census, up from 179,684 in 2010.
Gainesville is the county seat.
Hall County is entirely within the Gainesville, Georgia, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also part of the Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 429 square miles (1,110 km2), of which 393 square miles (1,020 km2) is land and 37 square miles (96 km2) (8.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The county is located in the state’s upper Piedmont region, near the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north.
