Clay County is a county in the southern region of the United States state of Georgia.

The population was 2,848, according to the 2020 census, making it Georgia’s fourth-least populous county.

Fort Gaines is the county seat.

The county is named after Henry Clay, a notable American statesman who served in the United States Senate from Kentucky and as Secretary of State in the nineteenth century.

The county has a total area of 217 square miles (560 km2), of which 195 square miles (510 km2) is land and 22 square miles (57 km2) (10.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
