History
Boone County was formed by the Indiana General Assembly on April 1, 1830, from parts of Marion, Montgomery, and Clinton counties, and organized the following year. It is named for the frontiersman Daniel Boone, who never lived within its boundaries. Lebanon was platted as the county seat soon after organization. The county stayed predominantly rural and agricultural through most of the 20th century; interstate access and Indianapolis’s northward suburban expansion drove rapid growth in Whitestown and Zionsville beginning in the 1990s and continuing today.
