Anne Arundel County is in the U.S. state of Maryland. It is sometimes written as AA County or A.A. County.

As of the United States Census in 2020, there were 588,261 people living there, which is a rise of just under 10% since 2010. Annapolis, which is also the state capital, is the county seat.

The county is named after Anne Arundell, Lady Baltimore, who lived between 1615 and 1616 and died in 1649.

She was from an old family in Cornwall, England, called the Arundells, and she was married to Cecilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore, who founded and was the first lord proprietor of the colony Province of Maryland.

Anne Arundel County is part of both the Washington–Baltimore–Arlington combined statistical area and the Baltimore–Columbia–Towson metropolitan statistical area.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 588 sq mi (1,520 km2), of which 173 sq mi (450 km2) (29%) is water.

The city of Baltimore is to the south of Anne Arundel County.
