Geography
Orange County sits at the far eastern edge of Texas, low and heavily forested, cut by Cow Bayou and Adams Bayou and bordered on its east side by the Sabine River, which forms the state line. Wetlands and marsh line much of the river frontage in the southeast of the county. It borders Jasper County and Newton County to the north, Hardin County to the northwest, Jefferson County to the west, and Calcasieu Parish and Cameron Parish, Louisiana, across the Sabine River to the east and southeast.

History
Orange County was created January 5, 1852, from part of Jefferson County and organized the same year. It takes its name from the orange groves early settlers planted near the mouth of the Sabine River. The county seat, Orange, grew as a sawmill and shipbuilding town on the river and became a major World War II shipyard center, building destroyer escorts and other vessels for the Navy.
