Mtwara Region (or Mkoa wa Mtwara in Swahili) is one of Tanzania’s 31 administrative regions.
The municipality of Mtwara serves as the regional capital.
The Mtwara Region is known for being the country’s greatest producer of cashew nuts. According to the 2012 national census, the region’s population was 1,270,854, lower than the pre-census forecast of 1,374,767.
