Dar es Salaam Region (Mkoa wa Dar es Salaam in Swahili) is one of Tanzania’s 31 administrative areas.
It is located on the country’s east coast. The region has an area of 1,393 km2 (538 square miles).
The territory is comparable in size to the total land and water area of the country state of Mauritius.
Dar es Salaam Region is bordered to the east by the Indian Ocean and completely surrounds by the Pwani Region.
According to the 2022 census, the region’s total population is 5,383,728; the national census in 2012 had 4,364,541. The region has Tanzania’s highest population, followed by the Mwanza Region.

Dar es Salaam Region is divided into five administrative districts, four of which are governed by municipal councils that are affiliated with the city’s suburbs or wards.
