Bibiani/Ahwiaso/Bekwai is a municipal district in the Western North Region of Ghana, on the eastern side of the region towards the Ashanti boundary. Its capital is Bibiani. The municipality had a population of 167,971 at the 2021 census, the largest of any district in the region.

Geography
The municipality occupies the eastern end of the Western North Region and is the first district most travellers from Kumasi reach. The land is hilly and forested, cut by streams feeding the Tano and Offin systems, and rainfall is heavy for most of the year. Bibiani, Anhwiaso, Bekwai and Awaso are the four settlements the district is named around, strung along the main road. To the west it adjoins Sefwi-Wiawso, and its eastern boundary is with districts of the Ashanti Region.
Economy and Local Life
Mining and cocoa carry this municipality. Bibiani has been a gold-mining town since the early twentieth century and the deposit is still worked; Awaso is the site of Ghana’s long-running bauxite mine, which ships ore by rail to Takoradi. Around the mining towns, cocoa farming, oil palm, plantain, cassava and cocoyam support most rural households, and timber is cut in the forest reserves. Bibiani holds the largest market and the main hospital, banks and senior high schools. Wage employment at the mines makes the district more urban in feel than its neighbours.
Getting There
Bibiani sits on the main road from Kumasi to Sefwi Wiawso and is about two hours from Kumasi by car. From Accra the usual route is through Kumasi, then west. Buses and trotros run through Bibiani all day on the Kumasi–Sefwi Wiawso and Kumasi–Enchi services.
