Sene East is a district in the Bono East Region of Ghana. Its capital is Kajaji. The district had a population of 72,081 at the 2021 census, up from 61,076 in 2010. It was carved out of the former Sene District, whose western half is now Sene West.

Geography
Sene East is the far eastern district of the Bono East Region and one of the most water-bounded in Ghana. Lake Volta reaches deep into it, so the district is a set of peninsulas and inlets rather than a compact block, and several communities are easier to reach by boat than by road. Inland the country is flat savanna woodland, crossed by streams draining to the lake. Rain falls mainly between April and October.
Its regional neighbours include Sene, the former district it was carved from, with Atebubu-Amantin and Pru further west and north.
Economy and Local Life
Fishing on the Volta and farming are the two main livelihoods. Canoe crews work the lake year-round, and women run the smoking ovens and sell dried fish to traders who lorry it to Kumasi, Techiman and Accra. On land, households grow yam, cassava, maize, groundnuts and cowpea, keep goats, sheep and cattle, and cut firewood and charcoal in the dry season.
Kajaji holds the district assembly and the main market. Because the lake divides the district, small landing sites act as local trading points, and canoe transport carries people, produce and fish between shoreline settlements. Ewe migrant fishing families settled here after the lake formed and live alongside Guan and Akan host communities.
Getting There
Kajaji is reached by road from Kwame Danso, which links north-west to Atebubu on the Kumasi–Yeji route. From the regional capital Techiman the trip takes roughly three to four hours, longer in the rains, because the last stretches are laterite. Some lakeside communities in the district are served by canoe and small ferry rather than by road.
