Geography
Ketu North lies inland in the south-eastern corner of the region, north of the coastal lagoon belt and along the Togo frontier. The land is flat savanna and farm bush with seasonal streams, and Dzodze sits on the road linking Akatsi to Denu and the coast.
Open farmland runs east to the frontier, crossed by footpaths and farm tracks that communities on both sides use daily. Rain falls in two seasons here, and the settlements spread along the roads between Dzodze, Afife and Akanu.
The municipality borders Ketu South to the south, Akatsi South to the west and Akatsi North to the north-west.
Economy and Local Life
Farming is the main occupation: cassava, maize, groundnuts, cowpea, pepper, okra and tomatoes, with gari processing turning much of the cassava crop into a tradable good. Goats, sheep and poultry are kept at household scale.
Dzodze is known for kente weaving and its market is the busiest in the municipality. Proximity to Togo means steady informal cross-border trade in farm produce and manufactured goods.
Ewe is the language of daily life and English is used in schools and offices, with French common among traders working into Togo. Land is cleared before the March rains and the main harvest comes from July. Dzodze’s market days, church services and weekend funerals set the weekly pattern.
Getting There
Dzodze is reached from the Accra–Aflao highway by turning inland at Akatsi or north from Denu, with the drive from Accra taking about three hours. Shared taxis and minibuses run between Dzodze, Akatsi, Denu and Aflao daily.
