Towns and Villages in Asosa Zone

Assosa is a zone in Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz region.

This Zone was named after the Assosa Sultanate, which shared roughly the same boundaries.

Assosa is bounded on the south by the Mao-Komo special woreda, on the west by Sudan, and on the northeast by the Kamashi.

Assosa is the largest town in this zone. Its highest peak is Mount Bambasi, which is located in the same-named woreda. The Berta people make up the majority of the zone’s population.

According to the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this Zone has a total population of 310,822, with 158,932 males and 151,890 women. 39,957 people, or 12.86% of the population, live in urban areas.

There were 72,879 households in this Zone, with an average of 4.27 people per household, and 69,378 dwelling units.

According to Central Statistical Agency data from 2005, this zone has an estimated total population of 282,596, with 143,544 men and 139,052 women; 28,264 people, or 10% of the population, live in cities.

Asosa has an estimated 14,166.12 square kilometers and has a population density of 19.95 persons per square kilometer.
