Ayer Tena and Zenebework are the main western residential districts, both grown fast on condominium and private construction. Asko lies on the north-western road out of the city. Sost Kutir Mazoria, usually called Total after the filling station on it, is a busy junction on the Ambo road.

Kolfe Keranio is divided into 15 woredas, numbered 1 to 15, according to the Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency — the joint-highest count in the city, matching Bole and Nifas Silk-Lafto. The sub-city administration office is at Bethel, below the post office near woreda 6 and opposite George Church.

The Gefersa reservoir, on the western boundary, was the capital’s first piped water source and still feeds part of the supply. The Addis Ababa–Ambo road crosses the sub-city and carries traffic toward the western highlands.
Kolfe Keranio is mostly residential rather than monumental. Its significance is scale: it houses more people than any other sub-city, largely in condominium blocks and self-built housing put up since the 1990s, and its woredas run some of the busiest municipal service offices in Addis Ababa.

Density on the census count is about 7,000 people per km², moderate by Addis Ababa standards, because the sub-city still has open ground on its western side.
Amharic is the everyday language, with Oromo widely spoken given the sub-city’s boundary with the Oromia region.
Getting Around
The light rail does not reach Kolfe Keranio. The nearest station is Torhailoch, the western terminus of the Green Line, just over the boundary in Lideta; most residents of the eastern woredas connect there.
Minibus taxis run along the Ambo road through Total and Ayer Tena, and along the Asko road to the north-west. The Ring Road clips the southern edge. Bole International Airport is about 16 km east, the longest airport run of any sub-city apart from Akaky Kaliti.
