Towns and Villages in Sidama Region
The Sidama Region (Sidama: Sidaamu Qoqqowo, Amharic: ሲዳማ ክልል) is a regional state in southern Ethiopia.
It was founded on June 18, 2020 by the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) and the transformation of the Sidama Zone, following a 98.52% vote in favor of more autonomy in the 2019 Sidama referendum.
According to the CSA’s 2007 census, the region has a total population of 2,954,136, of which 1,491,248 are males and 1,462,888 are women; with an area of 6,538.17 square kilometers, Sidama has a population density of 451.83.
While 162,632 people (5.51%) live in cities, another 5,438 (0.18%) are pastoralists. There were 592,539 households in this region, with an average of 4.99 people per family, and 566,926 dwelling units.
The three main ethnic groups reported in this region were the Sidama (93.01%), the Oromo (2.53%), and the Amhara (1.91%); all other ethnic groups accounted for 2.55% of the population.
