Towns and Localities Today
Wodonga is the county’s largest city, on the Murray River opposite Albury. Beechworth, Bright, Myrtleford, Yackandandah, Chiltern and Harrietville are established towns that grew out of the 1850s–60s goldfields within the county.
Geography
Bogong County sits between the Ovens River to the west and the Mitta Mitta River to the east, with the Murray River as its northern edge. Its Victorian neighbours are Benambra to the east, Delatite to the south and Wonnangatta and Dargo to the southeast; Denison and Hume counties in New South Wales lie across the Murray.

Bogong was proclaimed a county on 24 February 1871. Its name comes from the Bogong moth, whose dormant larvae were traditionally collected and eaten by Aboriginal people in the alpine country the county covers.
