Geography
Goulburn County borders Mitchell, Wynyard, Hume and Selwyn counties to the north and west, and the Victorian counties of Bogong and Benambra across the Murray River to the south.
History
The county’s name honours Henry Goulburn, a British Chancellor of the Exchequer and colonial administrator. An 1886 government map records the county boundaries much as they stand today, drawn around the Murray River crossing that became Albury.
