Gokana is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is Kpor town, at the heart of Ogoniland.
The 2006 census counted 233,813 people in Gokana. A 2022 projection put the figure at 336,300. The indigenous tongue is Gokana, one of four Ogoni languages alongside Khana, Eleme and Tai.
The area’s postal code is 501103. Gokana borders Tai to the north, Ogu/Bolo to the west, Khana to the east and Bonny to the south. The traditional Gokana kingdom is ruled by the Gbere Mene, whose seat is at Giokoo. Decades of oil pollution in Bodo and Goi have drawn international attention, including a 2011 UNEP environmental assessment of Ogoniland.
