Oron Towns And Villages
Oron is a coastal Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, at the mouth of the Cross River. Its council seat is Uya Oron. The LGA covers about 126.5 square kilometres.
The 2006 census counted 87,209 residents. The 2022 projection put the figure near 111,300. Oron’s ten INEC wards are numbered Oron Urban I through X rather than named after villages, so the settlement list below is built from ward polling-unit records, the GeoNames and OpenStreetMap gazetteers, and Oron-nation clan history.
Fishing, boat-building and trade in crayfish, palm oil and timber support the local economy. Oron (ΓrΓΆ) speakers form the majority, alongside Efik and Ibibio speakers. Hon. Chief Asuquo Enweme has chaired the council since October 2024.

Oron became a Division in 1970 and a Local Government Area in 1976. In 1989 the federal government split it into Mbo, Oron and Okobo. Urue-Offong/Oruko separated in September 1991, and Udung Uko separated in December 1996 β both are now their own LGAs bordering Oron.
Oron sits in the tropics and stays warm year-round. The dry season runs October to April; the wet season runs May to September. The area has oil palms, mangroves, beaches and offshore oil and gas deposits, and crayfish, oysters and periwinkle are plentiful along the shore.
