Hadejia Towns And Villages

Hadejia is a historic Hausa emirate town on the Hadejia River in eastern Jigawa State, Nigeria, roughly 90 kilometres east of Dutse. Coordinates: 12°27′12″N 10°02′28″E. The 2006 census recorded a population of 104,286; the 2022 projection put it near 179,300.

Hadejia Local Government borders Kiri Kasama to the east, Malam Madori to the north and Auyo to the west. The town sits at the edge of the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands, a seasonal floodplain that shapes farming and fishing across the LGA. Hadejia was an independent emirate from 1808 until it was absorbed into British Kano Province in 1906; it moved from Kano State into the newly created Jigawa State in 1991. The town is built around eleven wards, each centred on its own historic quarter.
