Douglas County is a county in Wisconsin, United States, on the shore of Lake Superior at the Minnesota state line. It had a population of 44,295 at the 2020 census and covers 1,480 square miles (3,800 km2), of which 1,304 square miles is land and 176 square miles is water, centred near 46\u00b027\u2032N 91\u00b055\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Superior is the county seat; its postal code is 54880. The county has one city, four villages, 16 towns, and dozens of unincorporated communities. It sits in the Central time zone and was organized on February 8, 1854.<\/p>\n

Towns & Villages in Douglas County<\/h2>\n

Superior anchors the county as its only city and largest employer base. Four villages — Lake Nebagamon, Oliver, Poplar, and Solon Springs — sit along the county’s rail and highway corridors, and two places, Brule and Gordon, are recognized as census-designated places (CDPs). The rest of the county is organized into 16 towns, each carrying its own small hub or crossroads community. “CDP” below marks a census-designated place with no municipal government; “Unincorp.” marks a named community with no incorporated or CDP status.<\/p>\n
