Woodville, laid out the same year, took its name from George Tyler Wood, governor of Texas<br \/>\nfrom 1847 to 1849, and became the county seat. Colmesneil grew up around a Texas and New Orleans<br \/>\nRailroad stop in 1881 and was named for W. T. Colmesneil, a railway conductor; the Yellow Pine Lumber<br \/>\nCompany built a sawmill there in the 1880s. Chester formed in 1883 when a rerouted railway pulled the<br \/>\ncommunity&#8217;s post office and businesses to a new townsite, and it incorporated in 1968, honoring<br \/>\nPresident Chester A.
