Tarrant County is a county in Texas, United States, directly west of Dallas at the heart of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It had a population of 2,110,640 at the 2020 census, an estimated 2,248,466 by 2025, and covers 864 square miles of land (2,240 km2) centred near 32\u00b046\u2032N 97\u00b017\u2032W. It is the third most populous county in Texas and the fifteenth most populous in the United States.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth is the county seat and the county’s largest city; its postal code is 76102. About 40 incorporated cities and towns lie wholly or partly inside the county, along with 3 census designated places and a handful of unincorporated communities, and it runs on Central Time. Its FIPS code is 48439.<\/p>\n

Several entries straddle county lines. Grand Prairie sits mostly in Dallas County and Burleson mostly in Johnson County; their figures above are citywide, so only part of each total lives in Tarrant. Fort Worth itself reaches small fingers into Denton, Parker, Wise and Johnson counties, and Grapevine, Haslet, Mansfield, Crowley, Azle, Southlake and Westlake also cross a county line somewhere. Five more municipalities touch Tarrant only at the edge and are not tabled: Flower Mound (pop. 75,956), Trophy Club (13,688) and Roanoke (9,665) are mostly in Denton County, Newark is mostly in Wise County, and Reno is almost entirely in Parker County.<\/p>\n

Beyond the incorporated places, the Census Bureau recognises three census designated places: Rendon (pop. 13,533) in the county’s rural southeast, Briar (7,035, shared with Parker and Wise counties) and Pecan Acres (4,808, shared with Wise County) near Eagle Mountain Lake. Smaller unincorporated communities include Avondale, Boss, Eagle Acres, Lake Crest Estates, Lake Forest, Lake Shore Estates and the Alliance area, which spills into Denton County. Many names on older lists — Handley, Smithfield, Wheatland, Bransford — are former settlements long since annexed: Handley became a Fort Worth neighbourhood in 1946 and Smithfield was absorbed by North Richland Hills in 1958.<\/p>\n
