The Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River crosses the county, cutting through mesquite rangeland and mesa country, and White River Lake lies along its northern edge. Elevation ranges from roughly 2,000 to 2,600 feet, with the escarpment’s canyon rims marking the sharpest relief in the county.<\/p>\n Most of the county’s land is used for cattle grazing and dryland or irrigated cotton farming, with cropland concentrated on the flatter tableland to the west and rougher canyon country to the east better suited to ranching.
