Fort Bend County is a county in Texas, United States, on the southwestern edge of the Houston metropolitan area. It had a population of 822,779 at the 2020 census and covers 885 square miles (2,292 km2), of which about 23 square miles are water, centred near 29°32′N 95°46′W.<\/p>\n
Richmond is the county seat; its postal code is 77469. The county has 15 incorporated cities and roughly 20 recognized unincorporated communities and subdivisions, plus dozens more residential developments not individually addressed here. Fort Bend County sits in the Central time zone and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area.<\/p>\n

Houston<\/strong> is not listed in the table above — while a sliver of the city’s far-west limits crosses into Fort Bend County, the overwhelming majority of Houston’s population, and its city hall, sit in Harris County. And Katy<\/strong> and Missouri City<\/strong> both straddle county lines, with Katy also reaching into Harris and Waller counties and Missouri City into Harris County, so their populations are not attributed wholesale to Fort Bend here.<\/p>\n Smaller unincorporated communities such as Booth, Clodine, Crabb, Fairchilds, Foster, Juliff and Pleak generally share a neighboring town’s ZIP code rather than having their own.<\/p>\n Fort Bend County lies on the Gulf Coastal Plain, where the Brazos River loops through flat prairie and bottomland forest on its way toward the Gulf of Mexico. The Brazos crosses the county from northwest to southeast, giving the county its name — an early blockhouse stood in a bend of the river.
