Denton County is a county in Texas, United States, about 35 miles north of downtown Dallas and
\n40 miles northeast of Fort Worth. It had a population of 906,422 at the 2020 census, an estimated
\n1,069,346 by 2025, and covers 878 square miles (2,270 km2) of land centred near 33\u00b012\u2032N 97\u00b007\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Denton is the county seat and the county’s largest fully-contained city; its postal code is 76201. The county holds 23 cities, 18 incorporated towns, 4 census-designated places and 3
\nunincorporated communities, and it runs on Central Time. Its FIPS code is 48121.<\/p>\n

Nine of the places above straddle a county line, and their totals cover every resident
\ncitywide, not just the Denton County share. Frisco, Celina and Prosper sit mostly in Collin
\nCounty; Carrollton and Coppell sit mostly in Dallas County; Southlake, Grapevine, Haslet and
\nWestlake sit mostly in Tarrant County. Only their edges — often new subdivisions on the
\nDenton side — actually fall inside the county. Three larger Metroplex cities also reach into
\nDenton County without appearing above: Dallas, Fort Worth and Plano each hold a small annexed
\nsliver of Denton County land, mostly undeveloped or industrial, with no meaningful year-round
\npopulation there. Lincoln Park, a small town once listed separately, was annexed by Little Elm in
\nApril 2015 and no longer exists as its own municipality.<\/p>\n

Paloma Creek and Paloma Creek South are one master-planned community split into two census
\nareas by US 380 — Paloma Creek South is the larger of the pair. Alliance is an unincorporated
\nbusiness park and logistics hub straddling Denton and Tarrant counties, built around Fort Worth
\nAlliance Airport and a BNSF Railway intermodal yard; its housing is annexed into Haslet, Fort
\nWorth, Westlake, Northlake, Denton and Roanoke, so it carries no separate census population.
\nBolivar and Navo are rural crossroads communities with no incorporated government and no recent
\npopulation count. Denton County also has 13 recognized ghost towns from its 19th-century
\nsettlement era — Alton, Camey Spur, Cooper Creek, Drop, Elizabethtown, Green Valley, Marshall
\nCreek, Mayhill, Mingo, Mustang, Parvin, Plainview and Stony — none with a resident population
\ntoday.<\/p>\n
