Callahan County is a county in Texas, United States, on the Callahan Divide about 20 miles east of Abilene. It had a population of 13,708 at the 2020 census and covers 901.3 square miles (2,334 km2) centred near 32\u00b017\u2032N 99\u00b022\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Baird is the county seat, and its postal code is 79504. The county has two cities, two towns, and several unincorporated communities. It sits in the Central time zone and is part of the Abilene, Texas metropolitan statistical area.<\/p>\n

Belle Plain was the original county seat until the county government moved to Baird in 1883 — the old Callahan County Jail there was later disassembled brick by brick and rebuilt in Baird, where it stands today.<\/p>\n
