Sonoma County is a county in California, United States, about 55 miles north of San Francisco. It had a population of 488,863 at the 2020 census, an estimated 486,444 more recently, and covers 1,768 square miles (4,579 km2) of land and water centred near 38°31′N 122°56′W.<\/p>\n

Santa Rosa is the county seat and largest city; its postal code is 95401. The county holds 9 incorporated cities and 29 census-designated places, plus dozens of smaller unincorporated communities without formal recognition, and it runs on Pacific Time. Its FIPS code is 06097.<\/p>\n

A few pairs on this list are easy to mix up. Roseland<\/strong>, a longtime unincorporated community west of downtown Santa Rosa, was annexed into the city on 1 November 2017 and is no longer a separate place — it does not appear above because it is now a Santa Rosa neighborhood, not a CDP. Boyes Hot Springs<\/strong>, Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente<\/strong> and El Verano<\/strong> are three adjacent CDPs in the Sonoma Valley “Springs” district, all sharing the city of Sonoma’s 95476 ZIP, and locals often use their names interchangeably even though the Census Bureau maps them separately. Bodega<\/strong> and Bodega Bay<\/strong> are distinct places about five miles apart — Bodega is the inland farm town where “The Birds” was filmed; Bodega Bay is the coastal fishing harbor. Older lists of Sonoma County places also carried dozens of names for mobile-home parks, ranches and historic mail drops — Alderglen Springs, Diamond A Ranch Estates, Mount Jackson and similar — that the Census Bureau has never recognized as distinct places; they are omitted here for the same reason.<\/p>\n
