Stanley County is a county in South Dakota, United States, straddling the Missouri River in the central part of the state. It had a population of 2,980 at the 2020 census and covers 1,517 square miles (3,930 km2), of which 1,444 square miles (3,740 km2) are land and 73 square miles (190 km2) are water, centred near 44\u00b024\u2032N 100\u00b045\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Fort Pierre is the county seat, and its postal code is 57532. The county has one incorporated city and a handful of small unincorporated communities. Fort Pierre sits in the Central time zone; the rural western part of the county, west of the Missouri, is often treated as Mountain time locally, though Central is the county’s official zone. Stanley County anchors the eastern half of the Pierre, SD Micropolitan Statistical Area.<\/p>\n
