Pickstown was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s to house workers on the Fort Randall Dam, downstream on the Missouri River, and remains a small planned town rather than an organic settlement. Marty, Platte Colony, Lakeview Colony, and Clearfield Colony sit on or near the Yankton Sioux Reservation and Hutterite colony land respectively; none carry their own ZIP code, and mail for the colonies routes through Lake Andes or Platte.<\/p>\n
