Sacramento County is a county in California, United States, in the northern Central Valley about 90 miles northeast of San Francisco. It had a population of 1,585,055 at the 2020 census, an estimated 1,618,460 by 2025, and covers 994 square miles (2,570 km2) centred near 38\u00b035\u2032N 121\u00b029\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Sacramento is the county seat, and it has been California’s state capital since 1854; its postal code is 95814. The county holds 7 cities, 28 census-designated places and one historic unincorporated hamlet, and it runs on Pacific Time. Its FIPS code is 06067.<\/p>\n

Locke, on the Sacramento River south of Walnut Grove, is not a CDP — the Census Bureau counts its roughly 70 residents inside the surrounding Walnut Grove tract. It is a National Historic Landmark District, built almost entirely by Chinese American farm laborers between 1913 and 1915. Several names on older place lists for this county — Del Paso, Del Paso Heights, Hagginwood, Oak Park, East Sacramento, North Sacramento and Arden Town among them — are historic neighborhood names now fully inside Sacramento city limits, not separate settlements, so they are not repeated as standalone rows here. A longer set of names (Ben Ali, Bombay, Brighton, Camden, Centralia, Cosumne, Mackenson, Manlove and similar) could not be matched to any current CDP, incorporated place or USGS-listed populated place and were dropped rather than guessed at.<\/p>\n
