Dauphin County is a county in Pennsylvania, United States, centred on Harrisburg, the state
\ncapital, about 100 miles west of Philadelphia. It had a population of 286,401 at the 2020
\ncensus, an estimated 289,593 by 2024, and covers 558 square miles (1,445 km2) centred near
\n40°25′N 76°47′W.<\/p>\n

Harrisburg is the county seat and Pennsylvania’s capital city; its postal code is 17101. The
\ncounty holds 1 city, 16 boroughs and 23 townships, plus 15 census-designated places with no
\nlocal government of their own, and it runs on Eastern Time. Its FIPS code is 42043.<\/p>\n
