Marion County is a county in Oregon, United States, in the Willamette Valley south of Portland. It had a population of 345,920 at the 2020 census, making it Oregon’s fifth-most populous county, and covers 1,194 square miles (3,096 km2) centred near 44°55′N 122°35′W.<\/p>\n

Salem, the county seat, is also the state capital of Oregon; its postal code is 97301. The county has 20 incorporated cities, several unincorporated census-designated places and roughly three dozen smaller communities, runs on Pacific time, and carries FIPS code 41047.<\/p>\n

Marion County’s 345,920 residents live across 20 incorporated cities, a handful of census-designated places (CDPs) and dozens of small unincorporated communities. Salem, Keizer and Woodburn hold most of the population; the rest of the county is farm towns, timber hamlets and Cascade foothill outposts. Two names on this list are easy to confuse: Marion, the small unincorporated CDP east of Aumsville, is not the county seat and is often mistaken for the county’s namesake town; and Mill City sits on both banks of the North Santiam River, with its smaller half in neighboring Linn County. Aurora likewise straddles the Marion–Clackamas county line, with most of the city in Marion County.<\/p>\n
