Billings County is a county in North Dakota, United States, in the rugged Badlands along the Little Missouri River. It had a population of 945 at the 2020 census and covers 1,153 square miles (2,987 km2) centred near 47\u00b000\u203225\u2033N 103\u00b021\u203250\u2033W, making it the least densely populated county in the state.<\/p>\n

Medora is the county seat and the only incorporated city; its postal code is 58645. The county has 1 city, 4 unincorporated communities and 1 recognised ghost town, no organized civil townships, and sits in the Mountain time zone (the county switched from Central to Mountain time in 2010 to match its ranching and tourism ties west across the Montana line). Its FIPS code is 38-007.<\/p>\n

Ukraina, settled by Ukrainian immigrant homesteaders in the early 1900s along the Little Missouri, is now abandoned and marked only by a small cemetery. Fryburg, on the western edge of the county, uses the neighboring Golden Valley County ZIP 58637 rather than its own code.<\/p>\n
