Halifax County is a county in North Carolina, United States, on the fall line of the Roanoke River in the state’s northeastern Coastal Plain. It had a population of 48,622 at the 2020 census and covers 730 square miles (1,891 km2) centred near 36°15′N 77°38′W.<\/p>\n
Halifax is the county seat, and its postal code is 27839. The county has one city, six incorporated towns, three census-designated places, and dozens of smaller unincorporated crossroads communities. Halifax County is in the Eastern time zone.<\/p>\n
Halifax County lists 51 named places. Seven are incorporated (Roanoke Rapids as a city, the rest as towns); three — Hollister, South Rosemary and South Weldon — are unincorporated census-designated places (CDPs); the remainder are unincorporated crossroads and rural communities with no municipal government.
