Alleghany County is a county in North Carolina, United States, in the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Virginia line. It had a population of 10,888 at the 2020 census and covers 236.26 square miles (611.9 km2) centred near 36°29′N 81°08′W.<\/p>\n

Sparta is the county seat, and its postal code is 28675. The county has one incorporated town and roughly two dozen unincorporated communities and crossroads. Alleghany runs on Eastern time and is the fifth-smallest county in North Carolina by land area.<\/p>\n
