Rensselaer County is a county in New York, United States, on the east bank of the Hudson River across from Albany. It had a population of 161,130 at the 2020 census and covers 652 square miles (1,690 km2) of land, centred near 42\u00b043\u2032N 73\u00b029\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Troy is the county seat, and its postal code is 12180. The county has 2 cities, 5 incorporated villages, 14 towns and dozens of smaller hamlets, all in the Eastern time zone.<\/p>\n

North Greenbush is a separate town from East Greenbush; both border Troy and Rensselaer on the west side of the county and are easy to conflate on a map. Petersburgh keeps the historic “-h” spelling of its name even though the town’s post office and several old references drop it, hence “Petersburg” appearing on older signage and lists.<\/p>\n
