Lyon County is a county in Nevada, United States, in the western part of the state along the Carson and Walker rivers between Reno and the Sierra Nevada. It had a population of 59,235 at the 2020 census and covers 2,024 square miles (5,240 km2) centred near 39°01′N 119°11′W.<\/p>\n

Yerington is the county seat, and its postal code is 89447. The county has two incorporated cities (Yerington and Fernley), five census-designated places and a scatter of small unincorporated communities and mining-era ghost towns. Lyon County is in the Pacific time zone.<\/p>\n

Fernley, in the north of the county along Interstate 80, is Lyon County’s largest city by a wide margin; Yerington, in the agricultural Mason Valley to the south, is the county seat. Weed Heights, just outside Yerington, was built as a company town for the Anaconda copper mine and is now an unincorporated residential area. Como, Pine Grove and Talapoosa are 19th-century mining camps that never incorporated and today have little or no year-round population; Sutro, on the Carson River, grew up around the 1870s Sutro Tunnel mining-drainage project.<\/p>\n
