Simpson County is a county in Mississippi, United States, bordered on its west by the Pearl River. It had a population of 25,949 at the 2020 census and covers 589 square miles (1,530 km2) of land centred near 31\u00b055\u2032N 89\u00b055\u2032W.<\/p>\n

Mendenhall is the county seat; its postal code is 39114. The county has two incorporated cities, one town, one village and several unincorporated communities. Simpson County is in the Central time zone and lies partly within the Jackson, Mississippi metropolitan statistical area.<\/p>\n

Westville, on the Pearl River, was the original county seat before the government moved to Mendenhall in the 1830s; little remains of the town today. Merry Hell, Coats, Everett, Fayettehill, Gama, Jaynesville, Maddox and Rexford appear in older local references but could not be independently confirmed as current place names and are omitted here.<\/p>\n
