Amite County is a county in Mississippi, United States, on the Louisiana border south of Natchez. It had a population of 12,720 at the 2020 census and covers 736 square miles (1,906 km2), of which 730 square miles are land, centred near 31\u00b010\u2032N 90\u00b048\u2032W.<\/p>\n

The terrain is rolling and heavily forested, with the Homochitto National Forest reaching into the county’s western reaches and pine plantations covering much of the rest of the landscape. Small creeks such as East Fork feed the Amite River as it flows south toward Louisiana and, eventually, Lake Maurepas.
