Houghton County is a county in Michigan, United States, on the Keweenaw Peninsula in the state’s Upper Peninsula. It had a population of 37,361 at the 2020 census and covers 1,502 square miles (3,890 km2), including 492 square miles of Lake Superior water, centred near 46°59′N 88°39′W.<\/p>\n

Houghton is the county seat and largest city; its postal code is 49931. The county has 4 incorporated cities and villages, about 13 census-designated places, and dozens of smaller unincorporated communities left from the Copper Country mining era, spread across roughly a dozen civil townships.
