Delta County is a county in Michigan, United States, on the Upper Peninsula facing Green Bay and the waters of Lake Michigan. It had a population of 36,903 at the 2020 census and covers 1,991 square miles (5,160 km2) in total — 1,171 square miles (3,030 km2) of land and 820 square miles (2,100 km2) of water — centred near 45°47′N 86°52′W.<\/p>\n

Escanaba is the county seat, and its postal code is 49829. The county has two incorporated cities (Escanaba and Gladstone), one village (Garden), 14 civil townships, and several dozen unincorporated communities and census-designated places. Delta County runs on Eastern Time.<\/p>\n

Delta County’s settled places range from the two lakefront cities to small crossroads communities on the Garden and Stonington peninsulas. Escanaba carries the “City · seat” label below; Gladstone is the county’s other home-rule city; Garden is its only incorporated village; Rapid River and Rock are census-designated places (CDP); everything else is an unincorporated (Unincorp.) community, hamlet, or platted place.<\/p>\n

The old list carried “Rapid River” and “Rock” twice each; each now appears once, as a CDP. Fayette, on the Garden Peninsula, is a former company town rather than a current population center — it survives today as Fayette Historic State Park.<\/p>\n
