Washington County is a county in Maine, United States, about 90 miles northeast of Bangor along the Bay of Fundy and the Canadian border. It had a population of 31,095 at the 2020 census, an estimated 31,334 by 2025, and covers 2,563 square miles (6,640 km2) of land centred near 44°58′N 67°37′W.<\/p>\n

Three names on this list belong to one historic split: Machias, Machiasport and East Machias were a single settlement until Machiasport separated in 1826 and East Machias followed in 1863, so all three still share the Machias name and a stretch of the Machias River. Whiting and Whitneyville, though alphabetically close, are unrelated towns on opposite sides of the county’s midsection.<\/p>\n
