Thomas County is a county in Kansas, United States, on the high plains along Interstate 70 in the northwest part of the state. It had a population of 7,930 at the 2020 census and covers 1,075 square miles (2,780 km2) centred near 39°21′N 101°03′W.<\/p>\n

Colby is the county seat, and its postal code is 67701. The county has six incorporated cities plus several unincorporated communities and thirteen townships. Thomas County sits in the Central time zone.<\/p>\n

Oakley straddles the Thomas–Logan county line; the bulk of the city and its population sit in Logan County, with only its northern fringe inside Thomas County — a common arrangement for towns built along old rail lines that ignored the section-line survey grid. Menlo has no dedicated ZIP code of its own; mail there is handled through Rexford’s 67753 route.<\/p>\n

The county’s thirteen townships were named for Union officers killed at the Battle of Chickamauga when Thomas County organized in 1885, a naming scheme unusual among Kansas counties.<\/p>\n
